weather words

if you know me, you know that meteorology is my secret passion and my desire to be a weatherwoman has still not been satiated (not even by simulating a weather report at the newseum…)

but here’s my gripe with weather words:

when it’s raining, it rains

when it’s snowing, it snows

when it’s hailing, it hails

when the sun is shining, it’s sunny

but

when it’s windy, it blows.

makes no damned sense. we need a verb for wind with a “wind” root! I refuse to be a weatherwoman unable to tell the world that it’s winding in Oklahoma.
